Algoma University invites applications for a tenure-track Research Chair in Bio-products to join the Department of Biology, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will have expertise in Natural Products Chemistry and/or Chemical Ecology. Specific areas of expertise being sought include, but are not limited to, biochemistry, phytochemistry, chemical ecology, applied pharmacology. Preference will be given to individuals who have interest in invasive species biology, an area of focus for the Department of Biology at Algoma University. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and will benefit from a strong research record including postdoctoral training as well as teaching experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program in bio-products and/or chemical ecology, and to develop a regional network of academics dedicated to bio-products-related Research and Development, potentially involving innovation in the value-added forestry and agriculture industries. The candidate will be expected to initiate research projects and prepare funding applications based on academic, public and private sector collaborations including provincial, federal and international partners. Regional centers of excellence that provide opportunities for collaboration include the Natural Resources Canada, Great Lakes Forestry Centre, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Forest Research Institute and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
