The Royal Ontario Museum seeks an inspiring and dynamic leader to advance the ambitious course on which the Museum has embarked, cementing its position as a key civic, social and educational destination which supports its mandate to inspire wonder and build understanding of human cultures and the natural world. The Director is a natural leader of impeccable character and integrity. S/he will have a proven track record leading a complex, multi-stakeholder institution and a sincere passion for and commitment to the broad cultural arena.

The ROM's collections include almost six million natural history specimens and over one million art and archaeology artifacts, making the ROM one of the largest museums in North America. The ROM is also the premier field research institution in Canada, with research and conservation activities spanning the globe. The Museum recently underwent one of the world's largest museum restoration and expansion projects, which provides the ability to accommodate up to 1.6 million visitors a year and greatly expands access to its collections.

Based in Toronto and reporting to the Museum's Board of Trustees, the Director will provide inspired and strategic leadership for one of Canada's most revered and preeminent educational and civic institutions. The Director will have a keen interest in both world cultures and natural history and will enthusiastically serve as the Museum's chief proponent locally, nationally and internationally. Maintaining and building upon the Museum's high standards of curatorial, research and programming excellence, the Director will advocate for its ongoing public and private sector support and will also oversee the management of the Museum's operations, which include exhibitions, education, visitor services, administration and facilities management.
