Kenneth Mark Drain Endowed Chair in Ethics

The Department of Philosophy at Trent University invites applications for the Kenneth Mark Drain Endowed Chair in Ethics, to begin July 1, 2010. The Kenneth Mark Drain Endowed Chair holder will be a philosopher with a demonstrated record of distinguished and sustained research in ethics as well as a consistent record of excellence in teaching. The Kenneth Mark Drain Endowed Chair holder will teach courses in her/his area of expertise, and will participate actively in the intellectual life of the Department and the University. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Full Professor to a tenured position in the Department of Philosophy. The Drain Endowed Chair position is for an initial five year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second five year term.

Department of Biology
Schindler Endowed Professorship in Aquatic Science

Trent University invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track appointment in the Department of Biology to start July 1, 2010, subject to budgetary approval. Appointment may be at any rank. Applicants must have a PhD and a record of outstanding scholarly activity, and preference will be given to those with a strong teaching record. The successful candidate is expected to establish an externally-funded research program in an aspect of fresh water Biology and to supervise MSc and PhD students in the Environmental and Life Sciences Graduate Program and/or the proposed Biology Graduate program. The successful candidate will be provided with a research laboratory in the new Department of Biology building that will be open in spring 2011.

The Schindler Endowed Professorship was established to honour Dr. David Schindler, one of the world's leading fresh water biologists. The title and an annual discretionary budget of $10,000 will be for a 5-year term, renewable for a further five years following review. Trent University is located on the Otonabee River in a region of numerous lakes and streams. It offers a broad range of research opportunities including a 100 hectare field station, on-campus Nature Areas, analytical inorganic and organic chemical equipment with an extensive mass spectrometry centre, environmental chambers, major facilities for DNA sequencing and profiling, and imaging facilities. The DNA Building also houses scientists in the Ontario Ministry of Resources that are engaged in broad array of aquatic research programs.
