Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia's tourism centrepiece and home to rich Celtic, Mi'kmaq, and Acadian culture, is home to Cape Breton University (CBU). CBU has a reputation for small class sizes, strong community involvement, and strong internal support for faculty research. CBU delivers a sixteen-month, 60-credit, post-baccalaureate Bachelor of Education (Elementary and Intermediate/Secondary Education) program.
The Department of Education at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Education at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence May 2010, subject to budget approval. The successful candidate will teach mathematics at the elementary and secondary level and French at the secondary level. Responsibilities will include research, teaching, community service, and teaching during the spring/summer semester. Responsibilities may include teaching courses by distance. Assignment of teaching responsibilities at the graduate level may also be included. A PhD in Education (or near completion) is expected. Candidates should also qualify for licensure within the Nova Scotia P-12 school system. Teaching experience at both the P-12 system and university level will be considered important assets. Applicants are expected to demonstrate potential and commitment with regard to teaching, research/creative/scholarly activities and service to Cape Breton University, community and profession. The union affiliation of this position is with the Cape Breton University Faculty Association.
