The Position: University College of the North is seeking an exceptional individual for the position of Vice-President, Finance & Resources. As a member of the senior executive team, your experience includes excellent communication abilities and strategies for working effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Included in this experience is implementation of a broad strategic plan, particularly with a dynamic, developing and growing university college. As the Vice-President of Finance & Resources, you will lead the Division and contribute to the university college as a whole by working collaboratively and cooperatively with all members of the Senior Executive Council to align the mission, vision, values, mandate, structure and resources particularly as they relate to the academic and strategic plan within the Finance and Resource Division and departments of UCN. You will share in the implementation and outcomes assessment of strategic plans and goals for UCN and will provide collaborative leadership in the planning, organizing, staffing and administration of UCN finance, resources, and building administration operations. You will ensure that all finance & resources operations support the strategic direction of University College of the North.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a CGA, CMA, or CA designation. The Vice-President, Finance & Resources, as the chief financial officer for UCN, provides oversight and coordination of the financial activities of the system as a whole and must do so through collaboration with other senior executive members. The Vice President directs the preparation of short-term and long-range financial plans and; directs the organization and administration of procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper financial records, provides accounting controls and services; and directs and coordinates the establishment of the annual operating budget. Demonstrated experience in higher education at the senior administrative level, as well as demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of a diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural student and employee population is a must. Expertise in the areas of, finance, business, human resources, administration and/or public relations and marketing; a minimum of five years of progressive experience and expertise in more senior administrative positions in higher education; proven experience managing within a multi-disciplinary union environment and a demonstrated appreciation for and understanding of the academic environment; excellent strategic thinking, planning and implementation skills along with strong leadership, relationship management and communication skills; proven knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal and northern social, economic and transitional issues is vital. Crucial to this position is a demonstrated ability to understand diversity, and cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities. Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures are essential. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset.
