Duties:
Under the direction of the Department Head, Environmental Sciences, this tenure track position in Applied Entomology is required to contribute to teaching, research and service. Teaching responsibilities include developing and delivering courses at the diploma, undergraduate, and graduate levels in the areas of general entomology, economic entomology, integrated pest management, and other related disciplines. The incumbent will develop a strong self-sustaining entomology research program with the support of industry that addresses the agricultural and horticultural needs of the region. As Curator, the candidate will be expected to maintain and continue development of the A.D. Pickett Entomological Museum & Research Laboratory. The incumbent is also expected to serve on university and external committees, contribute to on-going program development, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and train highly qualified personnel (HQP).
Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D in entomology or a closely related discipline from a recognized university together with demonstrated potential to develop nationally and internationally recognized research programs in applied entomology, biological control, the management of insecticide resistance, integrated pest management, and insect ecology. Practical research experience with reduced risk technologies, biopesticides, biological control, toxicology, and pollinator research, especially as they relate to the wild blueberry industry, is essential. Demonstrated excellence in conducting research and technology transfer is required. A demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, publish relevant and original research in peer reviewed journals, obtain competitive research grants, supervise graduate students and other HQP, and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is required. The ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats is required. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, integrity, and the ability to develop strong collaboration with a number of university, government, industry, and producer/processor groups are desirable assets. Experience or familiarity with the duties of a museum curator is also an asset.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with education and experience.
