The Brantford campus of Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for one position in the Journalism program at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning July 1, 2010, subject to budgetary approval.

Laurier Brantford's Journalism program is interdisciplinary in nature and emphasizes critical thinking as paramount to quality journalism. The preferred candidate should have extensive newsroom experience (e.g., as a reporter, editor, newsroom manager) and his/her published work (professional and/or academic) should emphasize journalism as a means to explore social and cultural issues.

Academically, the candidate should have a PhD or Masters degree and offer evidence of academic research (e.g., articles in peer-reviewed journals). Candidates near completion of a Masters degree may apply but, if successful, will be hired to a Limited Term Appointment rather than a tenure-track position. Teaching experience will also be considered an asset.

The candidate's teaching load will include journalism skills courses in advanced news reporting, writing and copyediting and researching for news. Other more analytical/theoretical courses related to the candidate's research area(s) may also be taught inside and outside the Journalism program.

Other programs offered at Laurier Brantford are found at: http://www.wlu.ca/dept_listing.php?grp_id=37

Applications are due by April 12, 2010, and should consist of a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, evidence of academic research or a research plan, a statement of teaching interests, a portfolio consisting of published work that highlights the candidate's ability to conduct in-depth journalistic research, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
