The Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Counselling Psychology. While preference will be given to individuals with a multicultural and/or diversity specialization, applicants with other areas of specialization are encouraged to apply. The appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor and will begin September 1st, 2010.

Located in the greater Vancouver area, the Faculty offers classes on three urban campuses in Burnaby, Surrey, and downtown Vancouver (see http://www.sfu.ca) and works with communities and school districts throughout British Columbia. The Faculty has an outstanding record in research grants and publications, and in the design and delivery of innovative community based programs in teacher education and professional development. We seek candidates who are able to contribute in these areas and have interests in education across disciplinary boundaries, in keeping with the non-departmental organization of the Faculty.

Candidates will contribute to the growth of the Counselling Psychology program at our SFU Surrey campus. Our Faculty has been successful in building the SFU Surrey Counselling Centre in collaboration with the Surrey School Board. The Centre supports the program's clinical training and is a future centre for counselling research.

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology, the ability to develop a program of research related to Counselling Psychology, and a minimum of three years of counselling practice experience in the field. Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in one or more of the primary teaching areas of the program including: theories of counselling, counselling skills and strategies, assessment, ethics, group counselling, career counselling, and family counselling. Applicants who have a specialization and/or experience in school counselling, or experience with teachers and parents in K-12 settings will be of particular interest. Applicants will be expected to teach and develop counselling related courses and programming at the undergraduate and graduate level, work with pre- and in-service teachers, and supervise graduate research. Expertise and experience in counsellor education and supervision, knowledge of and experience in the public school system, and experience or expertise in cross-cultural counselling are significant assets for this position.

SFU is a university that serves students of diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic and international origins and, therefore, interests and or experience in working in multicultural and international settings with students of diverse backgrounds is a desired attribute of applicants.

Applicants should forward a letter of application describing: their teaching experience, scholarly interests and achievement, and potential contributions to the faculty; a current curriculum vitae; names and contact information of three referees; and one scholarly paper to: Dr. Kelleen Toohey, Associate Dean, Academic, Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, Canada V5A 1S6.

Applications will be reviewed starting March 31, 2010. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Please do not ask referees to send letters of reference.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Simon Fraser University is committed to equity in employment and offers equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants. All appointments are subject to budgetary approval.
