For nearly 100 years, Wilfrid Laurier University has been a leader in Canadian post-secondary education. Our success is a direct reflection of the value we place on leadership -- in the classroom, in the research lab, and in every facility and office across our four campuses. And it is possible because of the contributions of an outstanding group of people -- an involved community of faculty, staff, students and alumni who engage and challenge the world, who value a life of purpose and citizenship, and who make positive contributions in the many communities they touch.
Wilfrid Laurier University seeks applicants for five Tier II Canada Research Chairs, in the following areas:
Aquatic Biology: This position will augment the research expertise within the recently established Laurier Institute for Water Science as well as reinforce research and teaching strengths within the Department of Biology and its graduate program in Integrative Biology. Demonstrated expertise in areas that contribute to studies investigating ecosystem function, population biology, ecotoxicology, behavioural ecology or physiology, or other fields that might be relevant, will be considered. Experience with innovative modern tools (e.g., molecular, genomic, proteomic) and approaches in an interdisciplinary context will be considered strengths.
Environmental Psychology: We are looking for a strong interdisciplinary scholar who can support the development of our environmental psychology research area and focus efforts on the pressing need to address the human dimensions of environmental problems and degradation. Building on our strong existing connections with the community in our region, and with scholars from around the world, the research chair will work across disciplines, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary group of researchers with complementary interests in order to establish Laurier as a hub for research in this field. The primary appointment will be in the Department of Psychology with a possible cross-appointment in an appropriate second academic unit.
Boreal Water Resources and Ecosystem Science: From bases in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, the Institute for Water Science and the Cold Regions Research Centre, this Chair will develop a research program that contributes to informed and sustainable management of water resources in boreal ecosystems. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate that their research will lead to the development of novel methods of monitoring and predicting hydro-ecological, geochemical or geomorphological changes to the landscape as it undergoes modification due to warming soils, longer growing seasons and permafrost thaw.
Marketing: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a highly productive research agenda, provide effective teaching and supervision to graduate research students, and play a leadership role in Laurier's School of Business and Economics. The primary focus will be collaborative research on current and emerging issues as they relate to understanding customer behaviour, measuring the accountability and ROI of marketing expenditures, innovative ways to collect or interpret market insights, or other topics related to (e.g.) innovation in service marketing or product and brand management. Central to this position is a track record of, and willingness to develop and support, inter-disciplinary research.
Technology Commercialization and Intellectual Capital Creation: This position is intended to foster research and solutions that will maximize innovative output by creating a diverse network of cross-disciplinary researchers from across Canada, and maximize the value generated through innovation by connecting with complementary resource holders and the firms interested in benefiting from them. The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in developing research in at least three major areas: business opportunities from advances in Canadian science and technology; development and production of competitive Canadian products; and Canadian success in the global marketplace. Applicants must demonstrate an outstanding record of publication as well as practical experience in the areas related to Technology, Innovation and Intellectual Capital.
Detailed descriptions of the positions and instructions for applying can be found at: http://info.wlu.ca/academic/postings/ under "Canada Research Chairs".
Following the internal selection processes, nominees will be selected to apply to the competitive Canada Research Chair process. Tier II CRC nominees must be emerging scholars with the necessary qualifications, including a PhD within the past ten years, to be hired at the assistant or associate professor level. Tier II CRCs are tenable for five years and are renewable once.
