Babs Asper Professorship in Jazz Performance
Assistant Professor in Jazz Trumpet
The Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music invites applications for a full-time tenure-track probationary position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Jazz Trumpet, commencing July 1, 2010. The applicant must hold an advanced degree from a recognized university, or an equivalent combination of education, professional performance, and teaching/coaching experience.
We are seeking an outstanding performer with a national and international reputation, and a record of achievement in teaching at a variety of levels. The candidate should have strength in both performance and teaching, with a record of professional collaboration, and student success. Also important is the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with other musical organizations, artists, and teachers in the local and national communities. The faculty is seeking a versatile, adaptable team player -- a supportive colleague with exemplary leadership and student recruitment skills.
The successful candidate will normally teach undergraduate and graduate applied jazz trumpet, organize a weekly studio class for all jazz trumpet majors, and coach small ensembles and sectionals for larger jazz ensembles. Consideration will be given to candidates capable of teaching one or more of the following: Jazz History, Jazz Theory, Jazz Composition and Arranging, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Pedagogy, Jazz Ensemble Techniques and developing and teaching special topics courses.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Music faculty members participate actively in the workings of the unit, including recruitment and audition of prospective students. Service on University and Faculty committees is expected, as is professional achievement and growth through continued performance, research, and/or publication. The successful candidate will join a faculty that is active locally, nationally and internationally in teaching, performing and research.
