The J. Allan Gilbert Endowed Chair in Medical Education Research

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, Alberta, is one of Canada's premier health sciences education institutions. It has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and is currently inviting applications for The J. Allan Gilbert Chair in Medical Education Research. The University of Alberta and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry are committed to fostering education and research and as such, the Office of Education is seeking an individual with strong collaborative skills to build networks with colleagues across the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and beyond to other Faculties at the University of Alberta to promote health sciences education research and scholarship.

With an overall goal of enhancing the learning environment for undergraduate medical students, the Chair will provide leadership and support in the research, development, delivery and evaluation of innovative educational curriculum. Through mentorship and support, the Chair will facilitate the scholarly activities of educators and the implementation of new research findings into educational practice in Faculty programs.

Established as an endowment fund to support excellence in medical education research, the J. Allan Gilbert Chair in Medical Education Research is intended to recruit a leader in the areas of medical education research, curriculum development and evaluation. This is a senior academic leadership position at the Associate Professor level or higher to work with faculty and the education scholarship unit. The successful applicant will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment at the appropriate rank in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry within the appropriate department. The successful candidate will have a medical degree and/or a Ph.D. in education or a related field, and have demonstrated involvement in scholarly activities in medical education research and evaluation.
