Two-Year Assistant Professor in Measurement, Evaluation, and Research Methodology (MERM)
Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education
Faculty of Education

The Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education (ECPS) at
the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Point Grey campus) invites applications for a two-year assistant professor (non-tenure track, without review term) appointment in MERM, subject to budget approval.

The MERM program supports a masters and doctoral program and additionally offers courses that meet the methodology requirements for students across the Faculty of Education as well as other Faculties at UBC. These courses are at the upper division undergraduate level, as well as at the masters and doctoral levels. The successful candidate will have expertise in measurement, research methodology, and statistics. Additional expertise in classroom assessment (preferably with experience working in schools) would be considered an asset. A demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level and a strong record of research productivity commensurate with experience or a demonstrated potential for establishing a successful research program is required. In addition to contributing to both graduate and undergraduate teaching and service within the department, the successful applicant is expected to have a strong commitment to research, to pursue an active program of research, and provide guidance on research methods to masters and doctoral students.

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in a relevant field by the start date. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2010. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, background, and experience. Appointments are subject to budgetary approval.

UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given
priority. Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, a sample of recently published work, and evidence of teaching effectiveness, as well as arrange for three letters of reference to be sent. Review of applications will begin on April 6, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled.
