Dean, Faculty of Management
A dynamic and progressive institution, Laurentian University (LU) is one the fastest growing universities in Canada. Its 9,700 strong student population is shared between two campuses, the main one in Greater Sudbury, a city offering unique cultural, recreational and educational opportunities, and the other, in the expanding city of Barrie. Laurentian University provides an outstanding university experience, in English and French, with a comprehensive approach to Indigenous education.
The Faculty of Management consists of the School of Commerce and Administration and the School of Sports Administration. The Sudbury campus offers the Honours Bachelor of Commerce the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the Baccalauréat spécialisé en commerce and the Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration. The Barrie campus offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (4 year) and a number of professional development programs. Students benefit from small class sizes, essential for a collaborative style of learning, group work and a case-oriented teaching methodology. The Faculty will be pursuing AACSB accreditation.
Dean, Faculty of Management
The Dean is responsible for managing the academic, personnel, financial, and research activities of the Faculty. The Dean provides oversight in teaching excellence, curriculum development, and faculty development. As a member of the senior academic administrative team of the University, and as a member of the University Senate, the Dean is also expected to articulate the vision and mission of the University and devise strategies to implement them. The Dean works collaboratively with faculty members, the Directors of the Schools, University-wide governance bodies, the other Deans, Directors, Associate Vice-Presidents and Vice-Presidents and with industry and external advisory bodies as required.
The University seeks a dynamic leader with a strong commitment to academic excellence and collaborative processes. The successful candidate will have a record of building strong teams, fostering academic innovation, and promoting multi-disciplinary academic initiatives. He or she will have a Ph.D. in a management/business field and will have a distinguished record in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and ideally interaction with industry and the business community.
Applicants should have extensive academic administrative experience with particular emphasis on issues of academic planning, accreditation, governance and fundraising. In addition, applicants should have demonstrated experience in curriculum development, faculty development and resource allocation to support institutional and Faculty goals. The position requires excellent communication skills in both English and French, or the willingness to acquire functional use of both languages.
