The Department of Theatre of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Directing, to commence July 1, 2013. For a more detailed description of programs, please visit http://www.theatre.uottawa.ca/eng/
The University of Ottawa is located in the heart of the National Capital, which is home to a wealth of artistic institutions and is ideally situated between Montreal and Toronto. The Department of Theatre is a dynamic training institution with an exciting MFA program in Directing and an MA in Theatre with both a traditional thesis and a research-creation option. At the undergraduate level, the Department offers a Minor, a Major comprising three streams (Education, Theory, and Acting), and an Honours Specialization in Theatre. Each of these programs is available in French and in English.
Qualifications: conservatory training OR a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre OR a Ph.D. in theatre; experience in teaching Directing and related courses at advanced levels such as university, college or conservatory; considerable peer-recognized professional creative practice. Expertise in dramaturgy or acting (modern and / or classical traditions in French-language theatre) would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate must be able to function in a bilingual environment, contribute to the MFA program in Directing, and teach undergraduate courses. A clear plan for a research program leading to original work OR research-creation projects OR more traditional forms of academic publication, is a condition of appointment. The initial teaching load will be in French.
Salary is in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
