Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the area of Statistical Genomics and Computational Biology in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta.
The main responsibilities include statistical and mathematical analyses of genomic and other biological data, model and algorithm development, data mining, management and analysis. In addition, the successful candidate will act as a resource person for the group; assist in the supervision of students and postdoctoral fellows; consult with principal investigators to learn and develop research program objectives; contribute to the writing of research grant proposals; compile research findings; write and contribute to interim and final reports for funding agencies; meet with representatives from funding agencies and scientific collaborators; manage research projects; provide guidance in the purchase and maintenance of computers and related equipment; and perform other related duties as required.
The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Quantitative Genetics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or related discipline in crop or animal science. Considerable statistical experience in advanced statistics and computational skills using different programming languages (e.g., C++, R and SAS/Toolkits) are essential with 2-5 years postdoctoral experience prefered. The candidate must have a broad range of knowledge in plant and animal biology that enables him/her to have significant applications of complex analytic models and protocols to real datasets. A strong publication track record, excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are required.
In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Saff agreement, this position has an initial appointment of two years, with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package and annual salary range of $54,142 to $74,453, commensurate with experience.
