Visual Arts - Assistant Professor (New Media)

The Department of Visual Arts at Western University, Canada, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in New Media, to commence July 1, 2013. The Department seeks a candidate who will participate in broadening and enriching its programs and facilities in media, which include a commitment to next-generation media production and advanced visualization technology. The Department is especially interested in candidates whose work traverses conventional categories and demonstrates a clear sense of interdisciplinarity. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, have knowledge of current trends in relevant software and hardware developments as well as an active research/creation profile in the domains of media and/or interactive arts.
We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a dynamic technology-based arts practice and experience in one or more of the following areas: video; sound essentials; programming for Internet-based interactive and/or virtual environments; immersive-media; gaming; image editing software; forms of animation; basic electronics; interactive audio; robotics; and computational art. The candidate will develop new courses at all levels and participate in the integration of Media across all existing and emerging areas of the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level studio courses and broader lecture/seminar courses, supervise graduate student thesis projects, and serve on PhD committees. The position will involve responsibility for teaching 2.0 courses a year, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to administration and committee work in the Department.
An MFA or other terminal degree and a record of previous teaching experience are required.
