Limited Term Faculty Position in Structural Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, invites applications for a three-year limited-term faculty (LTF) position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Structural Engineering, with an expected start date of August 1, 2013. The successful candidate must have exceptional qualifications, particularly in teaching, and be capable of developing outstanding teaching and research programs. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students, participate in other educational, scholarly and professional activities, and liaise with industry. Applicants should have an earned PhD in the field of Structural Engineering and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. The applicant should have demonstrated teaching, research and industrial experience pertaining to structural mechanics, numerical modeling, advanced structural design and sustainable construction. Furthermore, the successful candidate must have the ability to teach (i) undergraduate core courses such as Graphics and Computer-Aided Structural Analysis; (ii) the capstone design course; and (iii) graduate courses in the area of Solid Mechanics and Pre-Stressed Concrete. Applicants should have an earned PhD degree in Civil Engineering related to the field of Structural Engineering. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a demonstrated ability to develop an independent research program and publish in scholarly journals. Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is mandatory.
The Department of Civil Engineering has 19 faculty members, over 500 undergraduate students pursuing an accredited Bachelor of Engineering degree, and over 120 graduate students at the Master's and Doctoral levels. The Department offers a curriculum that encompasses the areas of Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, Materials, and Environmental Engineering.
