Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a full-time Administrator for the position of Director, Counseling Services. This is a new position and will provide the incumbent with an excellent opportunity to have a significant impact on shaping the future of Counseling Services and Services for Students with Disabilities. Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Students, the Director will work with a team of faculty and staff in Counseling Services and Services for Students with Disabilities, providing both clinical supervision and broader leadership. The ideal candidate will understand how mental health affects student success, and also be familiar with developmental perspectives. S/he will lead programming that improves the mental health and well-being of students. The Director will act in a triage role with counselors on complex clinical cases and referrals from KPU's Early Alert program and Behaviour Intervention Team.
In addition to experience and demonstrated excellence in providing clinical supervision, he/she will have management experience in complex organizations, and will oversee day to day operations. The work will involve: establishing, in collaboration with faculty and staff, the strategic plan and ensuing objectives and goals; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; reviewing and approving budgets; and providing meaningful feedback on performance evaluations. Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance is based on the effective operation of the administrative function.
Minimum qualifications for this position include; a Masters' degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology or Social Work, (a Ph.D preferred) and meets the eligibility for registration in the College of Psychologists of BC (or equivalent), and /or the BC Association of Clinical Counselors or Canadian Counseling & Psychotherapy Association or College of Social Workers BC. Also required are 10 years of related counseling experience plus a minimum of five years management/leadership experience, preferably within a higher education environment, and two years minimum experience providing clinical supervision. The successful applicant will also have proficiency in brief, solution-focused therapeutic processes and a proven track record of implementing change resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency. Please note that possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required due to inter-campus travel.
