Cape Breton University (CBU) is located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia's tourism centrepiece and home to rich Celtic, Mi'kmaq, and Acadian culture. CBU has a reputation for small class sizes, strong community involvement, and strong internal support for faculty research. CBU invites applications for eight-month term faculty positions (sabbatical replacements) at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Positions will commence September 2013, subject to budget approval.
Biology ' Ref #BIO1301-CT
Must be qualified to teach Genetics and Animal Physiology and two of the following: Evolutionary Theory, History of Life, Plant Development and Diversity, Plant Taxonomy, or Stream Ecology. Applicants should have a PhD in Biology or related field. Research and teaching experience in biology or a related discipline will be an asset.
Chemistry ' Ref #CHM1301-CT
Must be qualified to teach from among the following: Introductory Chemistry, Introductory Inorganic Chemistry, and upper level Inorganic Chemistry. Applicants should have a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry or related field and teaching and laboratory experience in Inorganic Chemistry. The ability to engage in research and supervise honours student research during the term of the appointment would be an asset.
Mathematics ' Ref #MTH1301-CT
Must be qualified to teach Matrix Algebra, Linear Algebra and Calculus, and an upper year course in his/her field of expertise. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics and teaching experience.
Physics ' Ref #PHS1301-CT
Must be qualified to teach both calculus and algebra based first year Physics in addition to a second or third year course in his/her field of expertise. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics or related field and teaching experience.
The union affiliation of these positions is with the Cape Breton University Faculty Association (CBUFA).
Qualified candidates should send a letter of application quoting the reference number, a complete dossier including curriculum vitae, copy of academic transcripts, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a sample of scholarly writing and three current letters of reference (sent directly to CBU) to the Human Resources Department.
