NSCAD University, formerly the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, is an internationally renowned centre for the study, practice and teaching of the visual arts. Having celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2012, NSCAD offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in fine and media arts, craft, design, and historical and critical studies. The President is the chief academic and administrative officer of the University, reports to the Board of Governors, and is responsible for directing the academic, financial and administrative activities of the University. The new President is expected to understand NSCAD's unique place in Canada and the art world; he or she will provide the hands-on fiscal and academic leadership necessary to build on the institution's reputation and position at every level, from the local to national and international arenas. The ideal candidate is unafraid of difficult decisions, and will provide the direction, clarity and inspiration needed to ensure that NSCAD continues to be the Canadian university of choice for outstanding and ambitious arts students, faculty and staff from around the globe.

The ideal candidate for President is an experienced leader who brings to the position a passion for higher education, research, and the arts, a track record of success and solid fiscal management in a publicly funded system, and a clear understanding of Canadian and contemporary international university and arts granting regimes. This person will be committed to collegiality, collaboration, and transparency, able to facilitate the best possible relations with key stakeholders, including faculty and staff, the provincial and federal governments, private donors, the Friends of NSCAD and alumni/ae, in order to ensure a financially secure and intellectually robust future for the University.
