ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Photography)
The School of Art, University of Manitoba invites applications for full-time tenure-track position in photography at the rank of Assistant Professor. Position Number: 15925
Applicants should have a solid understanding of contemporary photographic practices and theory. The successful candidate will be able to integrate historical, critical and theoretical understandings of contemporary photography at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to supervise graduate students in studio research. We seek an artist with a strong commitment to practice, an active research program, and an inspiring teaching style, who is willing to contribute energy, enthusiasm and vision within a highly-regarded photography area. The successful candidate will demonstrate creative excellence, collegiality, leadership and vision to the revitalization of a historic school and new building, well-equipped facilities, a gallery and collection of historical and contemporary work, and a substantial visiting speakers program.
Winnipeg boasts recognition as the 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada. The Winnipeg Art Gallery, Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art gallery and the Platform Gallery are among its many exciting gallery venues. Border Crossings, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Opera and Manitoba Theatre Centre are some of its cultural institutions. An integral part of the vibrant and dynamic Winnipeg art community, the School has approximately 40 full and part-time faculty and approximately 400 students in programs with a reputation for producing outstanding artists and scholars. The School of Art offers an MFA in studio practice, and BFA and BFA Honours programs in art history and studio practice. Applicants must have an MFA Photography, a significant exhibition record and preference will be given to candidates with three years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
