Carleton University's School of Linguistics and Language Studies invites applications for a one-year term position in Russian and Modern Languages at the rank of Instructor I, commencing July 1, 2013.

We seek an active and enthusiastic professional with experience teaching Russian language at all levels, and with qualifications and experience necessary to serve as Interim Assistant Director of a large Modern Languages program, as a sabbatical replacement. Desired qualifications include a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or related field and native or near-native competency in Russian. Applicants must also have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach to a culturally diverse student body in the undergraduate program in Russian, to provide mentorship to a large group of instructors of Modern Languages, including part-time Contract Instructors, and to assist the Director of the School in the daily management of the Modern Languages program.

The School's programs in Russian and Modern Languages are housed in a large unit representing a rich diversity of perspectives on language, with courses in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies, American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and less commonly taught languages such as Anishinaabemowin, Inuktitut, Ki-Swahili and Turkish, as well as Communication Courses for Disciplines and Professions and courses in English as a Second Language for international students, immigrants and refugees.
