Tenure Track Positions (3)

Memorial University School of Nursing invites applications for three tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective August 1, 2013 [negotiable]. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. As the province's only university, Memorial plays an integral role in the education and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador. Offering diverse undergraduate and graduate programs to almost 19,000 students, Memorial provides a distinctive and stimulating environment for learning. St. John's is a safe, friendly city with great historic charm, a vibrant cultural life, and easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities.

The School of Nursing is located in the Health Science Centre on the university campus and offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Nursing (4 year regular stream, 2 year fast track and post-RN options) and the Master of Nursing (practicum, thesis and nurse practitioner options). A new PhD in Nursing program will commence this fall. Position responsibilities include teaching and supervision in the undergraduate and graduate programs, conducting a program of research, and academic service. The successful candidates will hold a Master of Nursing degree and an earned doctorate or PhD, preferably in Nursing. PhD students who have their defense date finalized will also be considered. A completed earned doctorate (or recognized terminal qualification in the discipline) is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position. If a successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the requirements of the degree.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant clinical experience in one or in a combination of areas including women's health, pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, mental health, community health, gerontology, primary health care, and advanced nursing/nurse practitioner practice. Experience in inter-professional learning, graduate level teaching and supervision, and skills in technology-enhanced learning would be assets. The School of Nursing is building capacity in research and therefore, the successful candidates must demonstrate evidence of a beginning program of scholarship, including research and publications, and be eligible for external research funding.

A complete application is comprised of: (a) letter of introduction outlining relevant clinical and teaching experience, brief description of research program, and a statement of teaching philosophy; (b) curriculum vitae; and (c) names of three referees under separate cover to the Dean, School of Nursing. Please submit completed applications electronically by April 26, 2013, to:

Dean, School of Nursing
