UFV College of Arts, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for one (1) permanent part-time instructor in Graphic and Digital Design: Interactive Design and Dynamic Media and one (1) part-time instructor in Graphic and Digital Design: Communication Design to teach four sections in the Graphic + Digital Design program at the Mission campus. The Graphic + Digital Design 2-year diploma program offers an introduction to the creative industry through a curriculum in communication design, dynamic media, interactive design, visual arts and illustration. Courses are taught by faculty who are engaged in practice, professional communities and academic research in the field of design.

Qualifications:

Applicants, who will provide instruction in a MAC-platform computer classroom, should have the following competencies:

1. Position in Interactive Design and Dynamic Media:
Advanced knowledge of current:

  • information design
  • interactive design practice
  • screen technologies and programming
  • dynamic media and motion graphics
  • online and social media
  • trends in interface and experience design
  • design and development of interactive design solutions
  • digital illustration
  • best practices in the creative industry, professional associations, copyright, ethics and professional standards
Expertise in:
  • user experience (UX)
  • responsive design solutions that meet user centered goals
  • process for creating interactive design solutions
  • sequence and motion design
  • content and content management
  • storytelling using digital media
Professional proficiency in:
  • interface design and screen typography
  • web authoring tools
  • Adobe CS

2.Position in Communication Design:

Advanced knowledge of current:
  • communication design, information design and advertising practice
  • branding and marketing practices
  • print and screen technologies
  • interaction design and dynamic media
  • art direction, creative direction, production and development
  • best practices in the creative industry, professional associations, copyright, ethics and professional standards
Expertise in:
  • design of multi-platform media campaigns (print, digital, environmental and social)
  • brand identity and the branding process including research, strategy and implementation
  • storytelling and ideation including critical thinking (use of evidence and questioning assumptions); creative thinking (use of imagination and innovation) and, design thinking (framing/reframing problems and communications strategies)
Professional proficiency in:
  • applied design skills including layout and typography for print and screen
  • Adobe CS
  • business practices for designers (presentation skills, project management, client communication, proposals, estimates, invoicing, documentation, marketing, social media and project case studies)

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of current experience in graphic and digital design and hold a Masters' degree (a combination of professional, educational and instructional equivalencies may be considered), and must be currently practicing in the graphic and digital design industry. Teaching responsibilities require experience in teaching post secondary levels in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
