Sociology/Criminology - Assistant Professor

Applications are invited for a Three-Year Limited Term position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 01 July 2013. The Department is seeking a talented scholar with expertise in Criminology. The successful candidate's particular substantive research interests in criminology may vary, but preference will be given to those with demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian criminal justice system and expertise in corrections, courts, and/or juvenile justice. Applied working knowledge of one or more areas of the Canadian Criminal Justice system is an asset. Candidates must have (or be near completion of) a PhD at the time of appointment. Experience teaching in the undergraduate classroom is essential, and a willingness to teach on-line courses is an asset. The successful applicant will teach the equivalent of 4 full-year courses, and will have opportunities to participate in the Graduate Program.
The Department has strengths in the areas of Social Inequality, Aging & Health, Population Studies, Social Theory, and Research Methods. The Department also has a large number of undergraduate students enrolled in our criminology major and honours specialization modules.
The University of Western Ontario is a top-ranked research-intensive university and the Department has one of the largest Sociology programs in Canada. We have a full PhD and Masters level graduate program that regularly attracts outstanding Canadian and International applicants.
