The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks a dynamic, highly-motivated person for the position of Section Head, Victoria General Hospital Library at a Assistant Librarian rank to begin August 1, 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter. This position normally has a two year probationary period and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- A Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution;
- Ability to manage a complex workload in a timely, effective manner;
- Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in academic or health sciences libraries;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Experience providing literature searches.
Candidates with the following qualifications will be preferred:
- At least 2 year's professional library experience in a health sciences library;
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in a health-related discipline;
- Experience in the areas of reference and research service, information literacy, collection management and library promotion.
Reporting to the Head, Health Sciences Libraries, the Section Head, Victoria General Hospital Library is responsible for the overall operation of the Victoria General Hospital Library in all its aspects including recommendations on staffing, planning, computing, organization and accom-plishment of the workload.
