The Faculty of Medicine in Dalhousie University is recruiting a proven leader for its Division of Medical Education. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and accomplished individual with demonstrated leadership, vision and academic credibility to lead the Faculty of Medicine in the area of medical education research and development. As the medical school of the Maritimes, Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine delivers its programs in 3 provinces with its faculty supported by 2 campuses providing programs across the continuum of medical education from preclinical to full practice.
Founded in 1995, the Division of Medical Education provides education expertise to the Faculty's educational programs and conducts educational research and development across the continuum of medical education, and provides a broad range of faculty-wide professional development activities. The Division houses programs in communication skills, humanities and medical informatics that span the continuum of medical education for teachers, learners, practicing physicians, medical students, clerks and residents. The Division also leads the Faculty's Learning Resource Center which has well established programs in simulation and assessment provided across the continuum of medical education.
The Head will provide strategic and visionary leadership to ensure the Division provides the educational expertise and resources required by the Faculty's undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education programs. By providing academic leadership and management of the Division's programs, the Head will enable medical education research and development that is aligned with the Division's guiding principles. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, Education, the Head will undertake this mandate by working in close collaboration with the Faculty's Education Council, department heads, and other senior leaders.
Applicants will hold a PhD in Education or MD with Masters in Medical Education, or equivalent degree, and will have extensive experience in medical education, a record of scholarship in medical education, excellent interpersonal skills, and proven leadership skills. The appointment as Head is for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal for a second five-year term.
