Located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, the University of the Fraser Valley, with over 16,000 students pursuing more than 100 programs, including two master's degrees, 15 bachelor's degrees, majors, minors and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas, and more than a dozen trades and technology programs, is committed to teaching excellence. UFV is also committed to indigenization of the institution.
The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for one full-time, eleven month appointment to teach courses in its post-degree Teacher Education Program (TEP), a 12-month program based on a cohort model. In the current program, TEP provides professional development for elementary and middle school pre-service teachers in a K 8 module of 36 students. In July 2013, the program is expected to expand to include a secondary module of 36 students. The program is located on the Abbotsford campus.
This is a position for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative program and whose philosophy about teacher education is consistent with TEP's Mission Statement, Program Values and Program Goals.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate with a K-12 teaching certificate and classroom experience, who has demonstrated a proven commitment to teacher education with relevant expertise in K-12 school curriculum. The individual will be expected to teach courses in the TEP, be a faculty mentor during the pre-service teaching practica, work collaboratively with a variety of faculty and seconded faculty mentors, and be part of the TEP student admissions process. A key responsibility of faculty in TEP is to ensure that teachers who successfully complete the UFV program meet all TEP program goals, demonstrate TEP program values and are fully aware of their obligations to adhere to the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (BCTRB) Standards.
A completed doctorate in Education (nearly completed with a set defense date will be considered) with a strong background in Language Arts and Literacy. The ability to teach additional courses in at least one of the following areas is required: Fine Arts, Special Education, English as a Second Language, and Literacy Across the Curriculum and Reflective Practice. Other requirements include a recently demonstrated research interest in teacher education and evidence of experience and/or scholarship oriented toward a progressive vision of public education that is inclusive and committed to social justice, critical thinking, reflective practice and professional learning communities. The successful candidate will also demonstrate and include evidence of strong leadership and excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to innovative program development. Familiarity with learning technologies, portfolio assessment and supervision models are definite assets.
