Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Director will be a catalyst and leader in helping the university achieve its strategic goals of providing the best undergraduate education in Canada and being a leader of the development of the Fraser Valley. She/he will work collaboratively with a wide range of campus constituencies and governance bodies to support and encourage student learning, innovative and effective teaching, and a culture in which the participation by all faculty in teaching development is central.

With the support of a full-time Assistant, a Coordinator of Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition, a Coordinator of Supported Learning Groups, six Educational Technologists, and an eRoom Technologist; with advice from an Educational Technology Advisory Group and the Teaching and Learning Advisory Council; and in cooperation with the Office of Research, the Director will develop, organize and oversee programs/workshops to advance:

  • the scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • the integration of teaching and research;
  • the application of sound pedagogy;
  • curriculum development and redesign
  • the integration of appropriate educational technology;
  • interdisciplinarity in teaching;
  • the indigenization of teaching, learning, and curricula; and
  • the development, assessment, and alignment of Learning Outcomes at the course, program and institutional levels.

Working strategically with UFV's Education Plan, the Director will provide support for teaching initiatives that promote inclusive environments, attitudes, and activities, and encourage equity in educational experiences.

Duties also include assisting faculty with evaluation processes, including the development and review of teaching dossiers and interpretation of faculty evaluation information; and supporting the orientation of new faculty.

The Director is responsible for the Teaching and Learning Centres, UFV Online, Educational Technology Services, the Supported Learning Groups Program, and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree or terminal credential, preferably in Higher Education or the scholarship of teaching and learning, with extensive teaching experience at the university level (ideally at a post-secondary institution offering university preparation, trades training, professional studies, and Arts and Science degrees); demonstrated expertise and knowledge in the application of educational theory; experience in budget management; excellent organizational, administrative, project management, and problem-solving skills; supervisory skills and experience; and outstanding communication skills. S/he will be a team player with an aptitude for working in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate must be approved for a teaching faculty appointment.
