Responsibilities:
The Director, Learning and Teaching is responsible for the overall management and performance of the Institute of Learning and Teaching (ILT) and program quality assessment in accordance with the mission, values, goals, and policies of Okanagan College. The Director provides administrative support and leadership in conjunction with program deans and directors for programs and services delivered by the ILT for Okanagan College.

The Director has an institution-wide responsibility for promoting and advancing Learning and Teaching at OC working in close cooperation with other administrators, faculty and instructors. The role for the Director with respect to the ILT is to facilitate the aims of the ILT. The Director will meet regularly with the ILT Program Administrator to assist in a management capacity. Given that the ILT is a peer-based initiative, the Director will work with the ILT in a guidance capacity. The Director will keep the Leadership Team informed of key initiatives being undertaken by the ILT. The Director recommends the annual operating and capital budgets for the ILT. The Director manages the financial performance of the ILT and associated programs on an ongoing basis in relation to budget and performance targets, is responsible for authorizing expenditures within approved budgets, and takes corrective action if required.

The Director is responsible for the effective assessment of program quality for all OC campuses and centres. As such, the Director works with the Vice President Education to ensure all programs complete the annual Tier 1 and Tier 2 Program Review and Renewal processes as well as to oversee all Tier 3 Program Reviews. The Director will work closely with the Deans Forum to determine the priority of Tier 3 reviews each year.

The Director will work with the Vice President Education (VPE) each year to administer the Innovation Fund. This includes preparing the annual Call for Proposals and collaborating with the Deans Forum to determine the relative rankings of the proposals. In addition, the Director will oversee the Fund expenditures to ensure compliance with the allocated budget. Finally, the Director will develop and implement a communication strategy to ensure the projects undertaken through the Innovation Fund are highlighted throughout the institution.

The Director has responsibility to develop academic policies and will liaise with the VPE, Vice President Students (VPS), Director Legal Affairs and Policy Development, Chair of Education Council, Registrar, Deans and Directors to revise academic policies and introduce new policies as necessary.

The Director will work with the VPE and Program Deans to ensure all necessary Program Advisory Committees (PACs) are in place and active.

The Director will chair the Extended Study Leave (ESL) Committee on behalf of the VPE. The Director will ensure the guidelines and any changes are in compliance with the OCFA/OC Collective Agreement.

The Director fosters an environment which is supportive of learning organization principles, and is committed to providing quality educational service through the active development of continuous quality improvement initiatives.

The Director is a member of the senior management team and, as such, participates in institution-wide long and short-term planning, budget and policy development, and educational planning. The Director is responsible for ensuring that learning and teaching needs and perspectives are represented and appropriately incorporated into institutional plans. Liaison with portfolios and departments with respect to their learning and teaching aspirations and objectives is undertaken upon mutual agreement.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Masters Degree in any area represented by Okanagan College.

Minimum Experience:
10 years of relevant experience, including teaching experience at the post-secondary level and experience in senior level management or administration is required.

Professional Development/Training:
Demonstrated professional development in the areas of learning and teaching pedagogy.

Skills and Abilities:
- Proven track record of developing excellence in college educational programming and a high degree of understanding of teaching pedagogy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated supervisory/management skills
- Team player with honesty and integrity and an aptitude for working in a collegial and collaborative environment

- Excellent research skills with ability to synthesize data/information and develop/deliver findings and recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD preferred.

$97,710

Related Collective Agreement/Policy:
Salary and working conditions are governed by the Okanagan Policy for Senior Management. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
