The Vice President, Finance & Administration of Douglas College has overall responsibility for the effective stewardship of the financial resources of the College and for the reporting on these resources to the College's governance bodies. The Vice President is the staff resource to the Board on financial matters, and represents the College in its dealings with investment managers, financial institutions, and government financial regulatory bodies. In addition, the Vice President is responsible for overseeing the College's risk management program, insurance contracts, student placement agreements, contract training services, and Facilities services (ancillary services, purchasing, capital planning, projects, etc.). In this strategic role, the incumbent functions as an integral member of the College's Senior Management Team. Reporting to the Vice President is the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President, the Director of Finance, the Director, Facilities Services, the Director of Safety, Security and Risk Management, and the Executive Director of the Training Group.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Established professional credibility as evidenced by a degree or post-graduate degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in finance, commerce, accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Must be a member in CA, CGA or CMA in good standing with the relevant accountancy body;
  • More than five years of experience at a senior level with responsibilities including the production of financial statements, investment management, budget projections, risk management and supervision of senior staff;
  • Demonstrated superior strategic-thinking, analytical and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated superior written, presentation and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated expertise in project planning, development and implementation;
  • Demonstrated progressive managerial experience, preferably in a unionized, public sector environment; and
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing human and fiscal resources and providing guidance and mentoring to a diverse team.
