DIRECTOR, ATHLETICS AND RECREATION - Competition Number 13-126

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a full-time administrator for the position of Director, Athletics and Recreation. Reporting to the Vice Provost-Students, the Director is a member of the Student Affairs division's senior management team and is responsible for the effective vision, leadership, operation and management of the Department of Athletics and Recreation's programming, staff, coaches, and athletes.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate successful management experience within a complex organization, success in marketing, strong organizational skills, and a proven track record in program development and promotion. The incumbent will be responsible for leveraging KPU varsity and recreation programs as vehicles for student engagement, student development, campus life, community engagement and as agents for positive reputational impact for the University.

In addition to leading and coordinating broad-based initiatives, strategic planning, and managing Athletics and Recreation's administrative and financial resources, the Director supports: day to day operations; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for the department; fundraising and marketing strategies; and staff recruitment, hiring, development and performance evaluation. The Director is KPU's designated representative to all governing regional and national sports organizations. Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance is based on the effective operation of the administrative functions.

Minimum qualifications for this position include; a Masters' degree in a related field plus 3-5 years of administrative sport and recreation experience, preferably in a university or college environment. The successful applicant will also have detailed knowledge of the requirements set by PACWEST and detailed knowledge of the regulatory, legal and university policy environment governing athletics.
