Assistant Teaching Professor, Sociocultural Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology, University of Victoria, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of sociocultural anthropology. The 3 year initial appointment, effective July 1, 2014, comes with an expectation of reappointment for Assistant Teaching Professors who meet performance standards.
We seek a dynamic teaching colleague interested in joining a department that values co-operation between anthropology's sub-disciplines and who has demonstrated excellence in UG teaching and mentoring. Candidates must have a PhD in hand prior to the start date of the appointment. The successful applicant will 1) take primary responsibility for our 200-level core course in sociocultural anthropology which is an important gateway course to our major; 2) bring a skills-rich approach to this and other courses at the 300 and 400 levels; and 3) aid departmental efforts to enhance experiential learning for our students. While specific areas of expertise are open, we particularly seek an individual whose teaching foci are compatible with one or more of our department's four integrative themes (Inequality, Culture, Health; Indigenous Peoples; Evolution & Ecology; Visual Anthropology & Materiality). The position comes with an 8 course obligation (1.5 units each) spread across the academic cycle (Fall, Winter and Summer Terms) with scope for repeats among the 8 course obligation and in a distribution to be negotiated annually.
