Date posted: 2013-10-12
The Faculty of Science at Brandon University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry in the area of Analytical Chemistry.
The successful individual will have a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or closely related field and expertise in the development and validation of methods for the quantification of trace components in biologically-relevant matrices. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, externally funded research programme, and to be an active participant in the interdisciplinary Master of Science in Environmental and Life Sciences. A track-record of successful collaborations in both Life Science and Environmental Science fields will be a considerable advantage. Existing analytical instrumentation within the Faculty includes 400MHz and 60MHz NMR; LC-MS; GC-MS; atomic absorption, UV/visible and fluorescence spectroscopy; electroanalytical; analytical scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer with qualitative X-ray fluorescence.
The successful candidate will complement the existing strengths of both the Department and Faculty with the expectation that this will lead to the establishment of new collaborations and strong interdisciplinary research clusters at Brandon University, and with researchers across Canada (e.g. the nearby Canadian Light Source facility). The successful applicant will be responsible for the lecture and laboratory delivery of existing undergraduate analytical and instrumentation courses that form a core component of both the chemistry and multi-disciplinary environmental and life sciences undergraduate programming. Candidates will also be expected to develop new courses in their area of specialization. The ability to develop courses that will broaden both chemistry and either environmental or life sciences programming will be particularly advantageous.
This position is subject to budget approval.
