Role Description

Western Libraries invites applications from innovative, enthusiastic, and service-oriented candidates to fill four librarian positions within the Allyn and Betty Taylor Library:

  • Three (3) probationary appointment (continuing track) positions to commence as soon as possible, supporting the physical sciences and/or the health sciences (depending on the number of candidates with the required experience and qualifications, one or more may be filled as a term rather than probationary appointment).
  • One (1) term appointment position for a one (1) year period anticipated to end by 14 November 2014, preferably supporting the physical sciences.

Reporting to the Head, Research and Instructional Services, Allyn and Betty Taylor Library, and working as members of the Research and Instructional Services Team, the librarians will be responsible for instruction, collections and liaison for one or more disciplines associated with the physical sciences (supporting the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering) and/or the health sciences (supporting the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry).

The librarians will plan and deliver research and instructional services, in person and/or virtually, as well as develop and manage collections in support of research and teaching. The librarians will seek opportunities for integrating information literacy into the curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide in-depth research support to faculty and student researchers. The librarians will work in collaboration with colleagues and staff within the Allyn and Betty Taylor Library, Western Libraries and Western University at large, to ensure that learning outcomes and collection and research needs are met. The librarians will support and contribute to Western Libraries' strategic initiatives such as scholarly communication, e-learning, research data management and collections management. The nature of the workload may involve evening or weekend work.
