Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Integrated Watershed Management
Brandon University is a leader in providing high quality education in arts, sciences, education, music, and health studies. Based in southwestern Manitoba, Brandon University also offers pre-professional and Masters programs, as well as innovative and award-winning outreach programs in a personalized learning environment.
Brandon University invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Integrated Watershed Management. The University seeks an individual with a PhD or appropriate terminal degree obtained within the last ten years, an outstanding research program, and an established record of attracting competitively awarded research funding, including Canadian Tri-Agency or similar national or international funding.
The successful candidate will conduct research and teach in the area of integrated watershed management and build capacity to inform watershed governance and policy development as they relate to shared water resources. The Chair will serve as a node to develop an interdisciplinary research network that will train highly qualified personnel and include collaborations with existing departments, programs, and institutes at Brandon University, within the regional prairie community, as well as nationally, and internationally. The candidate will have demonstrated an interdisciplinary appreciation for, and experience in, the stewardship of watershed values and uses, including those relating to water use and conservation, recreation, land use, and urban and rural development. The candidate will also be expected to develop collaborations and participate in several areas, including disaster risk management; a burgeoning centre of excellence in watershed and water science; the Master of Rural Development and the new Master of Science in Environmental and Life Sciences programs. The research program should have multi-jurisdictional and multi-stakeholder considerations, including Aboriginal and other communities, and fit within one of the three CRC themes found within the Brandon University Strategic Research Plan.
The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program was established by the Government of Canada for the purpose of attracting and retaining outstanding researchers to Canadian universities. The Tier 2 CRC is for emerging world-class researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field, and having demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition and attract students and trainees. Appointment to this Canada Research Chair position is subject to review and approval by the Canada Research Chairs Secretariat. Complete details on the CRC program can be found on the CRC website at http://www.chairs.gc.ca.
