The Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Victoria, invites applications for an NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Building Science at the Associate or Full Professor level. Applicants with interests and experience in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: building enclosure materials and building products; energy performance of buildings and persistence of energy conservation measures; design of low temperature space heating systems (heat pumps) and distribution of heat within buildings; integration of existing buildings into community energy systems; and climate change mitigation and adaptation as it relates to buildings. Candidates for the position must have a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching, research, graduate student supervision, verbal and written communication, and collaboration with colleagues with engineering and non-engineering backgrounds. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of forward-looking corporate and public sector stakeholders and sponsors, and pending approval, explore opportunities for using the university's physical plant as a living lab. Candidates must be registered as a professional engineer or be eligible for and committed to registration. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the University's Civil and Environmental Engineering program, supervise graduate students, establish an active research program, and participate in the academic affairs of the university to a level consistent with being an NSERC Industrial Research Chair. The successful applicant will have a PhD degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and will contribute to the development of a new Civil and Environmental Engineering program that emphasizes sustainability and includes program wide implementation of problem-based learning. This tenure-track appointment is subject to the availability of partner and federal funding for the Industrial Research Chair. The successful candidate will assist the Faculty of Engineering in identifying companies that are prepared to support the proposed research program.
