School of Nursing
Tenure Track Position

Memorial University School of Nursing invites applications for one tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2014 [negotiable]. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. As the province's only university, Memorial plays an integral role in the education and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador. Offering diverse undergraduate and graduate programs to almost 19,000 students, Memorial provides a distinctive and stimulating environment for learning. St. John's is a safe, friendly city with great historic charm, a vibrant cultural life, and easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities.

The School of Nursing is located in the Health Science Centre on the university campus and offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Nursing (4 year regular stream, 2 year fast track and post-RN options), the Master of Nursing (practicum, thesis and nurse practitioner options) and the PhD in Nursing. Position responsibilities include teaching and supervision in the undergraduate and graduate programs, conducting a program of research, and academic service. The successful candidate must be eligible for registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador and hold a master's degree and an earned doctoral degree. The master's or doctoral degree must be in nursing. Doctoral candidates who are close to finishing the degree will also be considered.

A completed earned doctorate is required for appointment to a tenure track position. If the successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, he/she may be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the requirements of the degree.

The School of Nursing is building capacity in research and therefore, the successful candidates must demonstrate evidence of a beginning program of scholarship, including research and publications, and be eligible for external research funding. Candidates must also be prepared to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and thus must have relevant clinical experience in nursing. Experience in inter-professional learning, graduate level teaching and supervision, and skills in technology-enhanced learning would be assets.

A complete application is comprised of: (a) letter of introduction outlining relevant clinical and teaching experience, brief description of research program, and statements of teaching philosophy and nursing philosophy; (b) curriculum vitae; and (c) names of three referees under separate cover to the Dean Pro Tempore, School of Nursing.

Please submit completed applications electronically by January 15, 2014, to:
