The University of Ottawa, Faculty of Health Sciences, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, School of Rehabilitation Sciences and Associate Dean of the Faculty, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
The Faculty of Health Sciences includes the Schools of Rehabilitation Sciences, of Nursing, of Human Kinetics, the School of Interdisciplinary Health as well as a program in Human Nutrition. The School of Rehabilitation Sciences includes the programs of Audiology/Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Programs within the School of Rehabilitation Sciences are offered in the French language only but other Faculty programs are offered in both the French and English languages. The Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to optimizing inter-professional opportunities such that professors may be asked to contribute to teaching across all programs of the Faculty.
The Director is responsible to the Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, for the supervision and administration of the academic programs, budget and activities of the School. More specifically, in consultation with the Dean, the School Director defines the strategic plan in support of excellence in research and academic program content and delivery with the view to optimize academic talent and innovative thinking. As academic administrator, the School Director is expected to act in tandem with the Faculty Dean and other senior administration of the University in the management of human, financial and physical resources in support of the academic activities of the unit. The School Director is expected to show leadership in scholarly pursuits by maintaining teaching and/or research activity, and where applicable engaging in the practice of his/her profession, at a level sufficient to remain active in the discipline.
Candidates should have demonstrated leadership ability, administrative experience, a strong academic background and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Candidates are required to have a doctorate in one of the rehabilitation disciplines or in a related field, an active research dossier and to show an understanding and appreciation for the professional preparation related to rehabilitative sciences. It is essential that the candidates have an active knowledge of French and English.
The appointment will take place on July 1st, 2014 (or according to the availability of the candidate).
