The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, which includes the Divisions of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular, Pathology and Medical Imaging at University Health Network (UHN), a University of Toronto teaching hospital, invites applications for the Peter Munk Chair in Cardiovascular Molecular Medicine. This appointment is for a five year term, renewable once. The effective date of this appointment is September 1, 2014, or shortly thereafter.
The Chair will develop a translational research program in cardiovascular molecular medicine that will integrate patient specific clinical, biochemical, radiologic and genomic/proteomics data, and will lead the Peter Munk Centre of Excellence in Molecular Medicine.
The Chair will have access to state-of -the-art preclinical and clinical imaging platforms, a biobank and integrated database, as well as linkages to world class facilities in basic, clinical and health systems research. The mandate of the Chair is to develop a program in their area of expertise and to contribute to team efforts to design and evaluate unique molecular therapies for patients with heart failure, valvular heart disease, aortic aneurysms and/or other cardiovascular pathologies. The Chair must have the interpersonal skills necessary to integrate a strong multidisciplinary team that includes Medical Imaging Physicians, Cardiovascular Physicians, Surgeons, Pathologists and Basic Scientists.
The successful candidate will have an established and excellent record of research in genomics sciences such as genomic/proteomic technologies or bioinformatics, and will hold an MD and / or PhD degree, or equivalent. Physician applicants must hold advanced certifications in Cardiac or Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Pathology or Medical Imaging, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and academic appointment to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research and education.
Salary will be between the range of $300,000 - $500,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be supported through multiple sources of funding including the $3,000,000 Peter Munk Chair in Cardiovascular Molecular Medicine, which is expendable over 10 years.
